Imber Village visit

Imber Village was taken over by the military in 1943 for urban warfare practice prior to D-Day, with the promise made to the evicted villagers that they could return at the end of the year. That promised return never happened, and the village is closed to the public for most of the year. I normally read about Imber during the closed periods, but got jogged about it during the Christmas open period. There’s a number of original buildings, along with more modern training buildings.

Windlesham Pram Race Boxing Day 2013

So, every year on Boxing Day there’s a Pram Race in Windlesham (where my Grandmother’s from). It’s been going for about 40 years (I think), and it’s one of those glorious small village traditions. Essentially it’s hundreds of people running around the village pubs in fancy dress, collecting money for local charities and working off the Christmas indulgences. Some of the prams are incredible (check out the Spitfire in the photos), and one of these years I’ll get around to organising a pram.
