Desktop apps which can show you different information, either from your phone or remotely.<\/p>\n<h2>Rounded Labs toggles<\/h2>\n<p>These are perfect examples of what the control widgets should be\u00a0 &#8211; simple buttons, with a handy visual representation of what the current state is. You can see them all <a title=\"Rounded Labs\" href=\"http:\/\/www.roundedlabs.com\/blog\/?p=30\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> at the Rounded Labs site. There&#8217;s four I use, but you can see the full set on their site <a title=\"CurveFish widgets\" href=\"http:\/\/curvefish.com\/widgets\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-316\" title=\"autorotate_onoff_icon\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/autorotate_onoff_icon.png\" alt=\"autorotate_onoff_icon\" width=\"48\" height=\"48\" \/> &#8211; autorotate on\/off. Allows you to choose if you want the display to automatically rotate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-318\" title=\"lockpatternonoff\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/lockpatternonoff.png\" alt=\"lockpatternonoff\" width=\"48\" height=\"48\" \/> &#8211; lockpattern on\/off. Handy for turning off the lock pattern if you&#8217;re needing to frequently look at your phone (like I am with this post).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-317\" title=\"autosync_icon\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/autosync_icon.png\" alt=\"autosync_icon\" width=\"48\" height=\"48\" \/> &#8211; autosync on\/off. If you&#8217;re going overseas, or you don&#8217;t have unlimited data, it&#8217;s nice to be able to quickly stop everything automatically synchronising over the air.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-319\" title=\"2g3g_onoff_icon\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/2g3g_onoff_icon.png\" alt=\"2g3g_onoff_icon\" width=\"48\" height=\"48\" \/> &#8211; 2G\/3G on\/off. 2G uses less battery, but is slower. Nice to be able to prioritise what you prefer.<\/p>\n<h2>Money Tracker<\/h2>\n<p>As Brindy says on <a title=\"Brindy: Money Tracker (Free)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brindy.org.uk\/node\/1\" target=\"_blank\">his site <\/a>&#8220;a very simple money tracking application&#8221;. Money Tracker allows you to keep a very, very quick and easy track of what you&#8217;re spending, and displays what the current situation is on your desktop.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-320\" title=\"Picture 3\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/Picture-3.png\" alt=\"Picture 3\" width=\"239\" height=\"110\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Sticky Note<\/h2>\n<p>Made by Bratag as a quick project, according to some forum posts by him. It might be a quick project, but it&#8217;s damn useful. Displays a tiny note on your desktop, which expands when you click on it to a full display of the contents. Tap the clock and you get to the alarm clock, tap the date and you get to the calendar. Good mix of info, aesthetics and usefulness from <a title=\"JSource\" href=\"http:\/\/retroclock.jsource.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\">JSource<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-325\" title=\"screenshot1\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/screenshot1.png\" alt=\"screenshot1\" width=\"320\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Daily Stuff feeds<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"AndroidSX Brothers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.androidsx.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Androidsx Brothers<\/a> made this. It&#8217;s a widget that links to various different RSS feeds &#8211; ones which are good for random facts, quotes or interesting bits and pieces.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-326\" title=\"-6869592706321355192\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/6869592706321355192.png\" alt=\"-6869592706321355192\" width=\"44\" height=\"44\" \/> &#8211; I&#8217;ve got four on my desktop. NYT idea of the day, today in history, most curious stories and daily random quotes.<\/p>\n<p>Sitting at the top of my desktop, I&#8217;ve got four folders which contain apps in four categories. I&#8217;ll go through these one by one.<\/p>\n<h1>Contact<\/h1>\n<p>Contains things I use to contact people (obviously). Just five of the standard apps in here &#8211; Contacts, Dialer, Google Mail, Google Talk and Messaging.<\/p>\n<h1>Games<\/h1>\n<p>Guess what&#8217;s in here&#8230;?<\/p>\n<h2>Amazed<\/h2>\n<p>Based on tilting the phone around to guide a ball to a hole, avoiding dropping it off the side. Turn by turn gameplay, fighting to control various resource points.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-331\" title=\"bfm1\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/bfm1.jpg\" alt=\"bfm1\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Chain React<\/h2>\n<p>Hit a single point, aiming to set off as many explosions as possible. Seem to be a few versions out there, but the one I&#8217;ve got is by Jered Windsheimer. Travel around buying and selling drugs.<\/p>\n<h2>Labyrinth Lite<\/h2>\n<p>Very similar to Amazed, but more advanced. Tilt based maze, with drop traps in it. Made by <a title=\"Labyrinth\" href=\"http:\/\/labyrinth.codify.se\/\" target=\"_blank\">Illusion Labs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-337\" title=\"labyrinth-lite-game-play\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/labyrinth-lite-game-play.jpg\" alt=\"labyrinth-lite-game-play\" width=\"320\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>NESoid<\/h2>\n<p>A pay app, but you can load any NES ROM to play. Made by a dev called Yongzh. No real point posting screenshots, as there are too many games I could load up!<\/p>\n<h2>PapiCatch, PapiJump, PapiPole and PapiRiver<\/h2>\n<p>Family of simple little minigames, which can be infuriatingly addictive. From <a title=\"Sunflat Games\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sunflat.net\/android\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sunflat Games<\/a>. This is a shot of PapiJump, where you tilt the phone to jump him up the platforms.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-338\" title=\"papijump_ss\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/papijump_ss.jpg\" alt=\"papijump_ss\" width=\"160\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Retro Defense<\/h2>\n<p>A tower defence game where you have fixed positions to place towers. There&#8217;s a free version on the Market, but it&#8217;s well worth the money for the full version. It&#8217;s another one where it&#8217;s from <a title=\"Larva Labs - Retro Defense\" href=\"http:\/\/larvalabs.com\/android\/retrodefense.html\" target=\"_blank\">Larva Labs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-339\" title=\"retrodefense1\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/retrodefense1.png\" alt=\"retrodefense1\" width=\"320\" height=\"460\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Robo Defense<\/h2>\n<p>More traditional style tower defence, in that you can put towers anywhere. Lot of different levels and achievements to try to collect. This one&#8217;s from <a title=\"Lupis Labs\" href=\"http:\/\/lupislabs.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lupis Labs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-341\" title=\"courtyard_sshot\" src=\"https:\/\/mattwpbs.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/courtyard_sshot1.png\" alt=\"courtyard_sshot\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Snake<\/h2>\n<p>If you need to ask what Snake is, back away from the magic shiny screen. Keep the standard browser, camcorder, camera, gallery, market, music and YouTube apps in here, and these other ones.<\/p>\n<h2>ACast<\/h2>\n<p>Podcast app &#8211; monitors feeds, downloads, and stores to play. Best one for this sort of thing, <a title=\"ACast\" href=\"http:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/acastapp\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>&#8216;s the feedback page. Can&#8217;t find a screenshot.<\/p>\n<h2>beebPlayer<\/h2>\n<p>Given the lack of any official support from the BBC, this is a godsend. One wish? Radio shows too! Download it, install it, activate it, and it picks up when you&#8217;re ringing an 0870 number and redirects to the geographic landline so that you don&#8217;t get charged. There&#8217;s nothing more to it, and there doesn&#8217;t need to be anything more to it. It&#8217;s one of those &#8220;where the fuck did I just drop that?&#8221; things.<\/p>\n<h2>gTraffic<\/h2>\n<p>Pics up traffic alerts, although I&#8217;m finding that now Google Maps allows you to see the traffic layer on the phone, that&#8217;s all that&#8217;s really needed.
